A Witness To The Truth At Planned Parenthood

J.M.J.+

Dear Fellow Helpers,
I am posting in regards to our next peaceful prayer vigil which will take place on Saturday, the 30th of May, outside Planned Parenthood (345 Whitney Avenue New Haven) from 8am until 12 pm noon, the hours which the babies are scheduled to be killed by abortion. Please join us and take an hour of prayer. Abortions also take place on Wednesday from 11-3pm and Friday mornings from 8-12 noon. If you feel compelled please bring a prayer partner and offer your prayers, fasting, and penance then.
Below is an email from Fr. John Corapi in regards to all Christians moral obligation “ to bear witness to the truth” at all times. Please join us in prayer to bring the truth as well as the love of Christ to those whom Our Lord wants desperately to love.

Mat God bless you,
Mike and Kerry

by Rev. John Corapi, SOLT, STD
Every Catholic and, indeed, every Christian faithful to the Gospel, has the moral obligation to bear witness to the truth, “in season and out of season, convenient or inconvenient,” accepted or rejected. This mandate is nothing new, of course. It’s as old as the Old Testament, and as new as the New Testament. Nonetheless, I’m afraid that it has become more necessary than ever to remind ourselves of it.

The Magisterium formally teaches in the Catechism of the Catholic Church #2471, quoting Sacred Scripture, “Before [Pontius] Pilate, Christ proclaimed the He has ‘come into the world to bear witness to the truth’ (John 18:37). The Christian is not to be ‘ashamed then of testifying to our Lord’ (2 Timothy 1:8). In situations that require witness to the faith, the Christian must profess it without equivocation, after the example of St. Paul before his judges. We must keep ‘a clear conscience toward God and toward men’” (Acts 24:16).

Let me give you one definition of equivocation: “A statement that is not literally false but that cleverly avoids an unpleasant truth; intentionally vague or ambiguous.” How about this for an example: “A woman has the right to choose.” Choose what? A less vague, ambiguous, and equivocal statement would be, “A woman (or man) has the right to choose to perpetrate homicide. Or, “A nation has the right to facilitate, enable, or legislate genocide.”

Oh, excuse me, that would be an unpleasant truth, or maybe an “inconvenient truth,” as the inventor of the internet, Al Gore, might say.

The Catholic Church unambiguously and formally teaches:

The duty of Christians to take part in the life of the Church impels them [IMPELS THEM] to act as witnesses of the Gospel and the obligations that flow from it. This witness is a transmission of the faith in words and deeds. WITNESS IS AN ACT OF JUSTICE THAT ESTABLISHES THE TRUTH OR MAKES IT KNOWN (see Matthew 18:16).

The recent travesty involving the University of Notre Dame’s invitation to the President of the United States to give the commencement address and receive an honorary doctor of laws degree is the antithesis of Catholic and Christian witness to the truth. A lawyer who vigorously, publicly, and consistently support an anti-life and anti-family litany of evils will now receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from what is arguably the most prestigious Catholic University in America.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Indeed, what thousand words will be conveyed by the picture(s) of Mr. Obama receiving his honorary doctorate and sending off the graduating class at Notre Dame University?

This will be a dark day indeed for the University of Notre Dame and the Catholic Church that permitted it to happen. In the end, the bishops have the right and the duty to decide if the University of Notre Dame can any longer claim “Catholic” credentials.

Meanwhile, the obligation to bear witness to the truth weighs more heavily than ever on each one of us. We have rapidly entered into a new era of persecution of the Church and the truth that she professes and teaches, reminding us again,

“The disciple of Christ must not only keep faith and live on it, but also profess it, confidently bear witness to it, and spread it: All however must be prepared to confess Christ before men and to follow him along the way of the Cross, amidst the persecutions which the Church never lacks.” (Lumen gentius 42; Dignitatis Humanae 14).

Service of and witness to the faith are necessary for salvation: “So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33).

God Bless You,
Fr. John Corapi

Notre Dame Students Select Father Frank Pavone to Lead Obama-Free Graduation
by Steven ErteltLifeNews.com EditorMay 11, 2009
http://www.lifenews.com/
South Bend, IN (LifeNews.com) -- Notre Dame students who don't want to attend a graduation ceremony involving pro-abortion President Barack Obama put together alternate plans. Today, they announced that Father Frank Pavone, the director of Priests for Life, will lead prayer at a pro-life prayer vigil.
The Class of 2009 Vigil for Life will be celebrated at Sunday's commencement ceremony at the same time as the graduation event.
“In standing with these students, I am standing with the true spirit of Notre Dame: a pro-life spirit, in harmony with human reason and Catholic Faith," Father Pavone told LifeNews.com on Monday.
"The scandal that has been generated does not represent what Notre Dame is all about," Pavone added. "It represents a radical betrayal of what Notre Dame is all about."
Pavone said the scandal has resulted in pro-life Catholics standing up for the teachings of the Catholic Church and wanting to hold the university accountable to them.
“Hundreds of thousands of Catholics, hundreds of priests, and dozens of bishops have called upon Notre Dame to end this scandal by withdrawing its invitation to President Obama," he said. "The result of that demand is not in our control."
Pavone told LifeNews.com he thinks pro-life students should exercise their right not to attend the graduation ceremony, where President Obama will give the commencement address and receive an honorary degree.
"One final response to this scandal is fully in the control of each graduating senior: don't show up. Don't participate in an event which will only serve to obscure rather than highlight the Church’s pro-life teaching and the true spirit of Notre Dame," Pavone continued.
"The seniors who do this are manifesting the real meaning of commencement: they are carrying out the witness to truth and service that their hard-earned degrees have prepared them to give in the world," he added.
Some pro-life students plan to join Pavone for the alternative event, but others plan to conduct their own protest during the graduation ceremonies, ND Response, the pro-life collection of student groups, told LifeNews.com last week.
"It certainly appears obvious from these announced plans that a large or perhaps the sole focus of that response is a boycott," ND Response indicated. "There also may be other small groups or individuals amongst the 2009 graduates and their guests who have their own ideas about raising the pro-life issue to Mr. Obama inside the Joyce Center."
The students say they want a focus on peaceful and respectful opposition, especially in light of some of the more in-your-face opposition appearing at their campus in recent days along with the arrest of some pro-life advocates.

A Mother's Gift

J.M.J.+

Dear Fellow Helpers of God's Precious Infants,

The Monthly Prayer Vigil for May will be held this coming Saturday, May 9th, outside the Children's Hospital at Yale on Park Street in New Haven. The Prayer Vigil begins with the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at 7:30 AM at Saint Mary's Church in New Haven on Hillhouse Ave. It will be followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for half of an hour and concluded with a closing Benediction at approximately 8:30 am. We will leave Saint Mary's Church in complete silence directly after the send off Benediction (no announcement will be made) and reassemble at the parking lot of Saint Anthony's Church at 25 Gold Street, New Haven. We then process on foot to the Children's Hospital at Yale where God’s precious infants are scheduled to be killed. At approximately 10:15 am, while still in prayer, we will process back to back to Saint Anthony's Church for a closing Benediction followed by light refreshments in the church hall.

Below are a series of highly disturbing emails Cecile Richards of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund has recently sent out to her followers in regards to the “gift any mother will appreciate” this Mother’s day…that is a donation to Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund to help women have access to contraception and abortion. Author Judy Blume is used to represent PP Action Fund’s message which is not surprising in light of the content of her “children’s books”.
This solicitation to honor your mother or a mother for “her courage” in Planned Parenthood’s name makes one wonder what are we supposed to be honoring… a woman’s “courage” to abort her child perhaps? These women who are being told abortion will bring back yesterday are being lied to and exploited. When I think of courage and what it means, I think of Our Blessed Mother standing by the foot of her Son’s Cross, I think of the mothers who are protecting and advocating for their children’s lives everyday…whether that may be physically, emotionally, or spiritually and Planned Parenthood and their message is farthest from mind. The sad news is that this message is where our society is at…this is what happens when apathy and desensitization to this horror takes the place of sympathy and moral outrage. If you know someone who thinks that evil has not pervaded our society in such a grotesque way please do them the favor and send them this. Send them the truth of what Mothers are being offered in our society that has chosen to turn a blind eye to the killing of the innocent babies in the womb as well as the true exploitation of their mothers. If this is anything, it is a wake-up call that our children and our children’s children may grow up thinking that abortion is a “gift any mother will appreciate”…Let us pray for the babies and mothers who will be on the other end of that “gift”.

May God help us,
Mike and Kerry

Friend — There are very few writers who have helped more young people grow up and grapple with their changing bodies and emotions than Judy Blume, the amazing author of Blubber, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, and Forever. I count myself among her biggest and most grateful fans — and am so lucky to call her my friend. I'm honored to relay her message about motherhood to you today. — Cecile
And here's Judy's message for Mother's Day:
Dear Friend,If you are the daughter whose mom had the guts to give you the answers to questions you couldn't quite figure out how to ask...If you are the son whose mother raised you to love and respect your sisters and wives and daughters...If you know a mother who is struggling to raise strong, independent, and confident children in the face of unbelievable odds......Say thanks. Say thanks this Mother's Day with a gift that honors her courage by making a donation to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund in her name. I guarantee you that she'll be pleased. I know I would be.I'm a mom, and I'm also a writer and an activist. Nothing has made me prouder than seeing my own children — and really, all young people — grow up to be healthy, educated, and in charge of their bodies and their lives. That's where Planned Parenthood comes in. There is no organization that I know of that supports motherhood and all that it means more than Planned Parenthood. That's why I'm honoring moms everywhere with my gift to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund today. It's not easy to be a mother these days. And right now — with more and more women seeking care from Planned Parenthood health centers — we need to do all we can to support them. By honoring a mother in your life with a gift to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, you'll be making a gift that protects and advocates for the health of millions of mothers and families. That's a gift any mother will appreciate.Sincerely,Judy Blumeon behalf of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund
Friend —Yesterday, Judy Blume — a beloved writer and icon to generations of women — graciously wrote a letter about Mother's Day for the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Now, anti-choice extremists are inundating her with hate mail and phone calls. We rarely respond to these outrageous attacks, but when it comes to Judy Blume ... well, I can't stand by and do nothing. I just can't.Please, let her know how much we appreciate her courage!Say thanks and send her a note of support. Click here.Spread the word. Please send an e-mail to friends, and post this message on your social network, blog, and twitter.Nothing — NOTHING — would make Judy happier than to know that the backlash has resulted in more support for Planned Parenthood and the women they serve.Thank you, thank you —
